No need to introduce this brilliant city of Rocamadour, listed as “Grand Site of Midi Pyrenees Region.”

Rocamadour fRocamadour has been inhabited since the earliest times. Witness the cave paintings of the Upper Paleolithic era in the caves there Grottes de Merveilles  and that can be visited.

Rocamadour, as the Mont Saint Michel, is a cradle of the essential faith in France since the 12th century, and a high international site of Christianity and pilgrimage. Famous for the many testimonies of miracles, Rocamadour attracted, in a very atypical way, repentant bandits and criminals, members of royalty and sailors survivors of shipwrecks.

Step fixture on the route to Saint Jacques de Compostela, the sanctuary of Rocamadour is renowned for its 7 chapels which one houses the Black Madonna. The city is also home to the crypt of St. Amadour and the Basilica of Saint Sauveur which are classified as World Heritage by Unesco. Defying all laws of gravity, sumptuous residences built on a hillside, overlooking the river bed of the Alzou that winds through the valley, 150 meters below. From the top of Rocamadour, you will have magnificent breathtaking views, offered to you.

On the horizon looms the Natural Park of the Quercy, characterized by a very dry vegetation on rocky hills, alternating with vegetable abundance of irrigated valleys by small and resurgences sources. Every summer, the city hosts the equestrian show of “Durandal” A show of exceptional quality decorated with acrobatics, stunts and knights duels. Every year towards the end of September, Rocamadour welcomes a swollen event, rich color: The Montgolfiades.
As the name hints, this event brings together hundreds of air-balloons that take off from the city below the valley.
